climate action team
One of the shared values of Unitarian Universalism is Interdependence, which recognizes that we honor the interdependent web of all existence and acknowledge our place in it.
With this in mind, the mission of the Climate Action Team is to build awareness of the significance of climate change, to strengthen the connection between spiritual practice and earth consciousness, to engage with partners through community action, and to work to achieve environmental justice.
The climate change crisis is an existential threat to the human species and the web of life. It is the urgent, overarching survival and justice issue of our time, calling us to impactful action now. Unitarian Universalism calls us to bring our individual and collective gifts together to act with bold, inspiring, collaborative, networked, and effective leadership to ensure a livable world for all descendants and create climate justice with those who are systemically oppressed.
Climate action and climate justice call us to mitigate (reduce) climate change, along with better adaption (coping) and increasing resilience (ability to adapt) to increasingly disastrous climate impacts. It calls us to balance urgency with open minds and hearts to learn and collaborate with communities most impacted. The result will be a difficult but creative and exciting transition to a clean renewable world with opportunity, survivability, and justice for all, now and for future generations.
The Climate Action Team stands ready to work with church and community members to bring about meaningful action to mitigate and adapt to climate change in Lincoln and Nebraska.

Climate Justice is one of the most pressing issues of our time—and we know that. However, all too often, we throw up our hands in overwhelm of what feels like immovable obstacles of government inaction, public apathy, and odds stacked against those who have dedicated their lives to this work. That's why Climate Justice work is critical, and now is the time to do it. We need to not only adapt to and mitigate climate change, but also work at the intersection of climate and justice in Lincoln. This webpage can serve as a portal and as an aid in this important work. |
