Please take advantage of ALL the Pledgucation opportunities that Christine and Elle, annual giving co-chairs, have prepared for you. They are designed to help you consider your pledge from lots of different angles. In this letter, we’ll share highlights of their analysis of last year’s pledging. Though a larger than previous number of pledges were discontinued (16 versus the prior 11), our number of pledge units remained stable (186 vs 185) and our overall pledge declined only slightly (-2.6%). Take a look:

Those who increased pledges, did so by a collective $30,705. Those who decreased pledges did so by a collective $21,446. A few did so to reflect what they’d actually given during the prior year. That’s good. They are “right-sizing” their pledge. However, the majority of those who reduced their pledge reported doing so because of life transitions including retirement, medical challenges, additions to family and job changes. Discontinued pledges had the same pattern and were down $12,539 vs a prior -$5,020. 

So, economic impacts under the current administration continue to be felt in the lives of many of our members. How will this impact our pledges this year? The enclosed information will help you:

• gain a complete context for the Pledgucation experiences offered each upcoming Sunday.
  
• consider your past pledge and whether adjustments are possible/needed..
  
• consider where you are in your progress toward 3% giving.
  
• imagine how love-fueled pledging could shape our future and match our values.
  

As we embark together with our newly settled minister, it is critical to keep love at the center of our decision-making. Thankfully, we are an economically diverse community at UCL. It has never been more important for all of us to give all we can as we consider our pledges to fund 2027. 

If you have pledged 3% (or more) of your gross income in the past, and are able, please maintain your pledge. If you haven’t done so yet and are able, make that transition this year. Thank YOU!
