We champion local organizations
We support local non-profits that focus on social justice. How? We donate funds from the church budget and/or sponsor them to hold events in the church. We regularly support Nebraskans for Peace, Religious Coalition for Reproductive Freedom, The Peacemaking Workshop, and the local branch of the NAACP, to name a few.
We show up at local events
We promote and participate in local social justice events and activities. For example, along with other UUs and friends, we proudly joined organizers of the Black Leaders Movement in 2020 to amplify their message. We show up at events and activities that advocate for women and reproductive rights.
We support lifelong learning
We support the annual Winter Lecture Series, which has a long history of providing unbiased and in-depth information by experts on important global issues. Learn more.
We engage with legislators
We offer opportunities to write to our NE legislature representatives and City Council about social justice-related issues ― reducing gun-related deaths, supporting reproductive rights, combating food insecurity, and more.
We monitor the state legislature, and we promote writing to committees and legislators to support or oppose relevant bills.
We promote and participate in Write Here! Write Now! This is a project of Unitarian Universalists (UUs) for Social Justice in the D.C. area where we write letters to our U.S. Senators and Representative. The topic varies each month but is usually related to an upcoming social justice-related bill.
We invite you…
To become a friend of the Social Justice Committee! Any member or friend of the Unitarian Church of Lincoln can sign up to receive emails about social justice activities and events.
