Dear UU Parents and Guardians,
Wow. Yesterday was a hard day. So many emotions with the joys and also the sorrows.(Skipping Imagination theme for this week for parent resources...let's otherwise envision this as 'IMAGINE a peaceful country resources'....(oof)) These are some good articles that I found about processing the events on Jan. 6th with your children. Talking about traumatic events is never easy. I hope this helps you to think through with your family a bit about what happened when Trump Supporters stormed Washington. Also - please remember to do self-care, dear ones. We are only our best parenting when we are centered and taking care of our own needs. How to Process a Scary Day for the Nation With Your Kids How to Talk to Your Kids About the Breach at the US Capitol Building UU the Vote and Siding With Love Vigil and Prayers Regarding Events on Jan. 6th (this was posted to Facebook but is a PUBLIC video so you should be able to watch it even if you are not on Facebook. If not, please let me know, they said it will be posted to their blog soon) (this would be a good video to watch to support that whole self-care notion for parents) Words from UUA President Susan Frederick-Gray Regarding Events on Jan. 6th (another PUBLIC Facebook video) (Now for something completely different...) Stuffie Sleepover This activity was a huge hit, and lots of fun! Even if you did not have a Stuffie join our 'camp' at the church, the videos are still great for kids to watch. You can get another peek inside the church building, and learn alongside the Stuffies about our UU principles.
