Thursday, June 15 • 6:30PM • Horizons Community Church, 3200 Grainger Parkway
Everyone is invited to attend the community celebration to applaud what we’ve built together, even if you did not make it to the Nehemiah Action Assembly. This will be a family-friendly event with music, activities and games, updates on issue successes, awards for network members and faith communities, and refreshments. For planning purposes, please let us know that you will be attending at this LINK. You will not be turned away at the door if you did not sign up in advance. The power of 1,105 people was harnessed on May 4 at the Lancaster Event Center for Justice in Action’s Nehemiah Action Assembly. Ten percent of the attendance, 124 participants, were members and friends of our church. We is one of 20 founding faith communities of Justice in Action. Preliminary conversations started almost two years ago among a group of Lincoln/Lancaster County ministers, including Rev. Oscar Sinclair. Seven members of our congregation hosted listening sessions last October. Then they transitioned to be our Network Team Leaders, maintaining contact with members of our congregation and inviting them to Justice in Action rallies and the Nehemiah Action Assembly. The Unitarian Church of Lincoln (UCL) is represented on the Board by Judy Hart and Judy Kelly (with Marcia and Ray Cederdahl and Elle Straatmann serving as alternates). Judy Kelly and Judy Hart participated as members of the criminal justice (Judy Kelly) and mental health (Judy Hart) research teams in preparation for this year’s Nehemiah Action Assembly. Visit https://www.justice-in-action.org/ for the full 2023 Nehemiah Action Assembly to learn about the mental health and criminal justice reform issue reports and to sign up for the Justice in Action newsletter. The cycle of listening sessions, issue selection, and research, and a Nehemiah Action Assembly will be repeated annually by Justice in Action.
