Now Our Work Begins--Considering a Land Acknowledgement At the conclusion of our six-week summer program learning about the Indigenous history of North America and taking a closer look at past and present Native inhabitants of Lincoln, the congregation is invited to come together to discuss a meaningful land acknowledgement for our church. Sunday, August 14, 1:00 – 3:00PM. At this initial meeting the congregation will discuss the purpose of land acknowledgements and our desire to craft a meaningful document. Land acknowledgements often include commitment to building the right relationship with Native members and organizations in the community. We will also discuss what might we as a congregation commit to? We are “stepping into a history of broken promises,” so it is crucial that we don’t make promises we can’t keep. Sunday, August 21, 1:00 – 3:00PM. At this second meeting, participants will work on crafting a meaningful land acknowledgement. Please join us for this important faith work as we consider what we have learned over the summer program and discuss how we might continue to move toward right relationship, reconciliation, and healing.
